I am a notebook computer user, and i practically love large screens because it gives me a cinema view of my work, and everything i do.

I am into photography, and i can’t use a small screen display laptop notebook, so i went for a 17.1 inch laptop notebook. Actually why i went for Gateway MX8711 laptop, i do not now, and there are obviously so many other wonderful notebook computer around too. Although the Gateway MX8711 laptop have been meeting my need, and i haven’t found a need for a replacement.

I think some of the things that make me go for the Gateway MX8711 laptop is first, i got a discount service advertised, and it sounded good to me, so why should’nt i go for it.

Secondly, i picked the Gateway MX8711 laptop because it is a quality laptop having quite a lot of multimedia features that can back up my job, and give me a real time using my laptop notebook. Some of its features include: its Intel Pentium Dual Core (1.6 GHz) processor, which gives me a full speed when it comes to editing, and processing photos. I also enjoy its 1 GB DDR II SDRAM, in that it gives me a good back up coupled with the processor. It also has a good hard disk drive space full enough to take all the pictures i will have in many years to come, without even deleting any of them. Now coupled with A 17.1 inch screen, it is just ok for my work and that just tells me, you’ve got your notebook computer. The screen has a high resolution, which was just perfect for its intended work when i bought it.

I am also a laptop notebook user who loves Microsoft Windows Vista, but if i get a Microsoft Windows Vista Home Edition, i will still be comfortable. It gives me, and my system some added value. However, when i first bought it, i noticed that there could be faults developing as a result of handling, so i simply decided to keep it in a fixed location. I don’t take it with me, whenever i have a field event. I have another laptop which i use for that purpose.

I realized this when i checked-up some informations website on Gateway laptops, which reported quite a number of case as a result of handling, so my decision was made in order to avoid it. I pray that my avoiding this problem lasts for a long time.

You can also check out other features in your own free time, that laptop is really great.

Since 2005, the sales of laptops have displaced those of desktop PCs in the United States.

Due a constant drop in price rapid technical improvements and the swift evolution and extension of the WAN technology, notebooks are destined to replace desktops in most areas both professionally and at home.

Laptops will account for more than half of the worldwide PC shipments by 2011, according to a new report by IDC.

According to the Gartner Group, worldwide some 257.1 million PCs will ship this year, and 60 percent of them will be desktops. PC growth for 2007 should be around 7% while laptops will grow by 18.6% and will continue to maintain a double digit growth at least until 2010. Desktop sales are still strong in the EMEA and Latin America with about 60% of all shipments.

In more mature markets notebooks have taken over and continue to grow at a much faster pace. This would hardly shocking news.

Notebooks take up much less space than desktops, they’re portable, and given their relatively low cost compared to a few years ago, you can just buy a new one when you decide you want to upgrade.

Specific reasons of the evolution from desktop to laptop:

- Price: While laptops are still more expensive than desktops for the same power/capacity, the gap is constantly narrowing. In 2000 you could expect to pay almost double for a laptop comparable to average desktop priced around $1,000. In 2007, you can expect a $300 to $500 difference depending on brands.

- Power: The same applies here. Even in the early 2000s, any heavy database user or serious gamer would not hesitate one second in between a desktop or a laptop. While there is still an advantage for desktop, this barrier has come down drastically; in fact many IT departments have migrated to laptops and only the most serious queries are run on servers. The same applies to gamers where only the most demanding games need to be run on the most advanced desktop. For the average user using office and going online the desktop have no specific advantages

- WiFi/Portability: The explosion of wifi spots is a decisive factor that explains the migration to laptops. Years ago, laptops where generally used because you could take them with you when traveling, nowadays in many areas you can work while traveling (airports, trains, restaurants, coffee shops…) are among the location where you can actually go online at a very comfortable speed. You can even use such tool as Skype with a wireless laptop and have video conference anywhere you have WiFi access.

In addition, laptops are continually getting lighter and screen sizes bigger. Most new laptops come with 17 inch screens and weigh under 7 pounds. Those with 15 inch monitors generally weigh under 5 pounds. You can buy them new starting below $400…

The desktop will not go away anytime soon, they will slowly evolve in a different market demand such as Media PC environment (TV tuner, DVR, radio, music) for the home or used as back up device for your laptop. Chances are that when it is time to replace your DVD player you will may buy a PC and you will also get use to download TV shows on your computer and watch them on your TV.

What’s next for laptops?

- On one hand they will continue to improve in the traditional “way” catching up with the desktops in term of power and capacity and slowly replacing desktop for most needs.

- Another aspect is the extra portability evolution already underway with mini laptops, palmtops, tablet PCs and touch screen laptops. Combining extreme portability and WiFi, these mini laptops will replace gradually paper and pads, order sheets, notebooks and others… As you write or type any information on your mini laptop (orders, notes, drawings, questionnaires….) you have the ability to immediately save, sync or communicate the results.

Acer laptop computers keep improving in terms of desirable pricing, quality, and a host of features. This brand of laptop is among the most popular notebook brand available on the market today. You can find these at many stores like Walmart and Target for sale as well as stores like Best Buy and Amazon. Acer notebooks are known for their reliability and great value. They are sturdy and dependable, and built to last.

One of the most popular Acer laptops is their Aspire One series of mini laptops or netbooks. Acer has won many awards for their new line of laptops, including design and performance awards. This is my Acer laptop review.

Acer Laptops are among some of the most popular laptops currently available in the notebook market. The success of these laptops is largely down to Acer’s competitive pricing, excellent build quality and the inclusion of cutting edge laptop technology. Their newer notebooks have such an attractive style, they are simple to use and come with an integrated Colby Surround sound for the ultimate multimedia experience.

Acer notebooks are among the lightest and most portable available on the market today. They are immensely popular for that reason, and because they come in a wide range of colors and designs. Acer laptops are becoming very popular with those looking for a reasonably priced notebook computer. A cheap Acer laptop will offer much the same memory and power as many more expensive computers. The Acer Travelmate laptops are extremely reliable which is of great importance when you need mobile computing on the go. It has great communication and security features all in a professional, handsome design.

Online shops offer lower prices with special deals and discounts. If one needs to find out the best deals, then comparison shopping becomes essential. Online research can really save you some time here. You’ll want to compare hard drive space, monitor size, drives, speed and other features that are important to your purchase.

Since their introduction, mini laptops have taken the laptop world by storm. They are also known as netbooks as they are highly geared for surfing the new and viewing online content. If you have ever used on of these mini laptops, it is easy to see why it has been such a phenomenon. They are very portable, affordable and extremely practical.

At the time of writing (Jan 2010), one of the latest mini laptop models in the market would be the Asus Eee 1005PE 10.1-inch netbook. It is one of the latest models in the iconic Asus Eee netbook series and one of the most exciting netbook models yet! No mini laptop reviews will be complete without mentioning the 1005PE. Generally, the Asus 1005PE is almost identical to the older (and very successful) 1005HA model except for several upgrades.

First of all, it comes with the new Intel Atom N450 processor (1.66Ghz). Compared to other netbook models, the Asus Eee 1005PE has one of the widest ranges of features. It comes with Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11b/g/n wi-fi connectivity, a multi-touch track pad, stereo speakers, and the Windows 7 Starter OS. This model now also comes with a longer battery life. The battery on the Asus Eee 1005PE can last up to a mind-boggling 14 hours on one full charge. Despite the upgrades, the Asus Eee 1005PE remains very well priced. It is currently selling at around $379 per unit.

Another of my favorite netbook models would have to be the laptop Revolving screen or laptop Revolving. this mini notebook inclue 160GHZ processor clock speed、1G DDR 2 RAM installed size and the hard drive capacity is 160G,Now, I will show you this product of highlights:
10.2 inch laptop with tft screen, laptop ddr2 ram 2gb, laptop with camera and mic and laptop 160gb hard drive
1、mini laptop with intel Atom processor.
2、TouchSmart TFT screen, fashion desigen of hand free writing .
3、rotational deformation screen desigen, comfortable angle as your will.
4、Large Screen and Keyboard for Comfortable Usage
5、The Mini Netbook is equipped with a large 10.2″ display that allows users to easily view documents and webpages comfortably
6、The keyboard is 92% the size of generic notebooks – making it more comfortable to type for more relaxed usage.
7、Exclusive 160GB Storage And 1.6G Hz CPU And 1Gb DDR2 RAM
8、High Speed Connectivity Anywhere with Wi-Fi 802.11b/g
Easily functions in any connected environment with fast and complete connectivity (WiFi 802.11b/g)
9、Fashion desigen for the internet going.

If you require a laptop notebook for university purposes then there are number of factors that you need to bear in mind when selecting the right one for you. Generally speaking you need to make sure that it is robust enough to handle being transported on a daily basis, that is has the necessary features for your requirements and also that it provides good value for money. If you are investing in a computer for the first time then check out the guide below to make sure that you ask the right questions to get the perfect model for your needs and budget.

What size should I buy?

How much weight can you carry? The chances are that you will have to carry your notebook to lectures on a daily basis and also on public transport so you need to make sure that you assess how much weight you can carry without it affecting your back or shoulders. Generally speaking, the lighter a notebook is, the more it will cost, so be prepared to part with a little more money if you want a lightweight model. A lightweight notebook could cost up to twice as much as a regular size model with the same specifications.

What am I going to use it for?

If you only plan to use your laptop notebook for surfing the internet and typing up assignments then you won’t need to have the fastest processor or the biggest hard drive. If you also want to use your laptop for playing games, downloading music and watching DVDs then you may want a bigger hard drive with a quality graphic interface. If you plan to use your computer for a number of purposes then it’s likely that you will have lots of different programs running at the same time so you will need a lot of RAM, over 500mb would be the minimum. If you are just going to use it as a means to type up assignments then around 250mb would be adequate. Having the option of connecting to the internet would be a advisable for research purposes for assignments so you will need to invest in either a wireless network card or Ethernet card – make sure that you double check with your university to determine which network interface you will need before making an investment.

Where should I buy it from?

There are always good deals available on laptop notebooks online so it would be a wise to start your search on the internet. If you want to get a good idea of how the notebook feels and get some more advice then visit your local PC store so you can test drive a number of models. It’s always advisable to buy from a well known brand name such as Sony, Toshiba, HP, Acer and so on as you know they are reputable companies who can offer quality guarantees and have dedicated customer service support teams should you experience any problems with your notebook.

Make sure you bear these considerations in mind before you make an investment so you can get the perfect model for your needs.

A laptop is the ideal replacement for your desktop computer. The greatest advantage of a laptop is its portability. Unlike desktop computers, you can easily move a laptop around your home, carry it to work or class and take it with you when you travel. Laptops are a big investment, so before buying one, you should consider many factors like the manufacturer, performance and features.

What kind of laptop user are you?

A home user wants all the features of a desktop PC in the form of a notebook. If you are a home user, then choose a notebook which is easy to carry and comes with the most basic computer applications. Students should opt for an affordable laptop which is light and durable. Frequent fliers need slim notebook models with long-lasting batteries. A business user should purchase a laptop with plenty of hard disk space and advanced security features while a gamer needs a fast processor and the latest graphics card.

What are the different kinds of laptop computers available?

Laptops for Entertainment:

Multimedia laptops are always more expensive and heavier than your standard model. These laptops come with a powerful processor, abundant memory and a large hard drive. You can use these laptops as a mobile DVD player, MP3 jukebox and a digital photo album. If you buy a TV tuner card, you can even use your multimedia notebook as a television set. These notebooks are ideal for PC gaming.

Laptops for Business:

Laptops especially designed for business use are ultra portable. These laptops are durable and more secure than the basic laptop. They are best suited for consumers who are always on the move. A good business laptop should offer a fingerprint reader or SmartCard support to prevent data theft. These notebooks usually have advanced computer applications and wireless capabilities, so you can work even when you are away from your desk.

Laptops for Home:

The home user typically uses a laptop for checking mail and browsing the web. These laptops perform general tasks. A high speed processor is an unnecessary luxury and tends to be wasted on most home users. Opt for a notebook with at least a 14-inch screen and a comfortable keyboard. These laptops are generally heavy, weighing more than 4 kg at times. Their average battery life is less than three hours.

What constitutes a good laptop?

Ergonomics:

If you are going to use your laptop extensively, then you need to be comfortable with the keys. Try a laptop with slightly larger keys to avoid straining your fingers from typing. Most laptops come with a touch pad or a tracking pointer instead of a mouse. If you are a PC gamer, buy a separate mouse which can keep up with the fast-paced action on screen.

Operating Systems:

The Windows XP Media Center Edition is a good operating system for entertainment laptops. It makes optimal use of multimedia features like TV tuners, radio tuners and media players. If you are a professional who prefers Apple notebooks but are concerned about compatibility, check out the dual boot models by Apple that allow you to install and run Windows as well as Mac OS X. If you prefer PCs, Microsoft Vista is an ideal alternative to Windows XP. Vista comes in several editions, including Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium for the home user, Vista Business for the professional and Vista Ultimate for the best of both worlds.

Memory and Storage:

All data and applications are stored in the RAM (random access memory). Many laptops commonly use 256 MB of RAM. Most business laptops and entertainment laptops come with 512 MB or more of RAM. The more RAM you buy, the more data you can store.

The hard drive stores all programs and files. For the average home user, a 20 GB hard drive will more than suffice. If you buy a laptop for entertainment or business purposes, a 60 GB hard drive will better serve your needs. Some entertainment laptops even have multiple hard drives for better performance. Hard drives come with different speeds. Most laptop hard drives have a speed of 5,400 rpm. However, faster hard drives go up to 7,200 rpm.

Display:

The size of a laptop is based on the size of the screen. Screen size starts as small as 10.6 inches and goes up to 20 inches diagonally. Most laptops have an LCD monitor. However, if you are using your laptop for CAD, a CRT monitor will serve you just as well, if not better. The screen resolution determines the crispness of your image. A 12.1 inch display uses WXGA resolutions (1,280 by 800). A 14 or 15 inch display typically uses WSXGA+ (1680 by 1,050), although a small number of notebook computers use WUXGA (1,920 by 1,200) instead.

Processor:

It is more difficult to upgrade a notebooks processor than it is to upgrade a desktop computer. For this reason, you should buy a processor with a speed that will best suit your use. Also, it is wise to choose a processor with less battery consumption. Processors with 1.4 to 1.6 Ghz are preferred by most users.

Battery:

Lithium ion batteries are commonly used in laptops. The average battery life is about 3 hours. It takes around 75 minutes to fully recharge a lithium ion battery.

Graphics Card:

A graphics card, sometimes referred to as a video adapter, is responsible for generating the images you see on a laptops display. For businessmen who need to do lot of presentations, a graphics card containing 32 or 64 MB of dedicated memory is the right choice. There are also specially designed cards for gaming. These cards are expensive and should be avoided unless you require excellent graphics.

USB Ports:

Laptop computers come with at least one USB port so that you can connect peripherals to the notebook. Recent models have a FireWire connection that lets you transfer digital information from camcorders or MP3 players.

Optical Drives:

Most laptops come with either a CD-ROM (compact disc, read-only memory), a CD-RW (compact disc, re-writeable) or a DVD-ROM (digital versatile disc, read-only-memory). The DVD+RW/+R with CD-RW is a combination drive which will read a CD or a DVD and write data to a DVD as well.

Modem:

Laptops are available with integrated modems for dial-up connections, Ethernet ports for cable internet and DSL and wireless modems for Wi-Fi connections. Many business laptops also have a cellular wireless modem so you can browse at broadband speeds with just a mobile phone signal.

The laptop notebook computer is one of the greatest technological advances to come along. And you will probably find it difficult to eschew the computer if you live if the modern world, unless you are Amish. The desktop computer was a wonderful invention, but the laptop notebook computer is gaining a powerful momentum that is hard to ignore.

While people have come to use the terms laptop and notebook interchangeably to describe the portable computing devices that business owners and stay-at-home moms alike carry around, there are a few differences between the two.

A laptop computer is a portable computer that is small enough to fit comfortably in the user’s lap. They are a bit larger than their counterparts – the notebook computer. Laptop computers are normally larger to include such features as built in or removable CD ROM drives.

Most standard laptops will feature a 14 inch to 17 inch screen, a full featured keyboard, 2+ hour battery life, integrated audio system, mid to high level graphics cards, integrated modem and WiFi capabilities, and a built in or removable optical drive. Laptops offer the ability to be upgraded to some extent also.

A notebook computer is designed to be ultra-portable and ultra-lightweight. Therefore, it includes the minimal amount of features necessary to provide the greatest degree of mobility. Standard notebook computers feature 4+ hours battery life, minimal graphics system, no internal optical drive, 12 to 14 inch screen, integrated modem and network capabilities, and the smallest possible keyboard. It is also normally thinner than a traditional laptop computer.

With technology improving at such a rapid pace, though, it is now possible to include much more computing power into a smaller space. This may be one of the reasons that the line has become blurred between the laptop and notebook computers. Now, both of these mobile computing devices have simply become known as the laptop notebook.

And since the differences are so slight, there really is no harm in putting the two into the same category. Most people do not care enough to recognize the difference in the terminology anyway. They just know that they want their laptop notebook along for the ride.

The actual life of a laptop battery will vary with computer usage habits. In a survey by chipmaker Intel, 57% of laptop users said they wished their batteries lasted longer

Depending upon the model, a notebook battery usually lasts from 1 to 8 hours. However, with efficient battery usage, an hour or two of battery power can significantly be increased. You can save battery power by using the built-in battery saving modes and by following good notebook battery-saving practices.

Built-in battery-saving modes are Stand By and Hibernate. In the Stand By mode, open applications are stored in the RAM, the hard disks power down, the monitor switches off, but the processor goes on running. When you again perform some activity of the mouse or the keyboard, then the hard disk powers up, the monitor switches on, and the data from the RAM is activated, restoring your notebook exactly the way you left it.

Here are some tips to extend the life of your laptop battery:

1. Power down the display

Lowering the brightness may give you as much as an extra hour of runtime. And to increase even more the lifetime of your battery lower the screen resolution and color depth. This will decrease the workload on the GPU, thus extending the battery runtime.

To change this settings follow the steps below:

a. Open the Windows Start menu and click the Control Panel
b. Open the Display menu
c. In the new window click the Appearance tab. Under the Advanced button you can disable extra features like ClearType fonts and fade effects which will cut down on the CPU’s power consumption
d. Now go to the Settings tab
e. Here adjust the color depth to 16 bit. This is more than enough in office and internet applications.

2. Turn off unused devices

Many new notebooks provide a hard-wired On/Off switch for the Wi-Fi radio for this reason.
To save even more power go to the Control Panel, select System–>Hardware–>Device Manager, and disable the following items: Ethernet adapter, infrared transceiver, and Bluetooth radio . You should do this beacause having Bluetooth enabled and not using it actually consumes quite a bit of power.

3. Decrease hard drive activity

Defragmenting your hard drive regularly will decrease the frecuency with which your hard disk has to spin, therefore the battery will last longer. This is due to the fact that defragmentation optimizes the placement of the data on the drive and when a program makes a request for certain data it can be found more quickly.

To defragment your hard disk follow the steps in this article.

Another way to decrease hard drive activity is to set your paging file to a fix value, and this value should be around 1.5 times the amount the RAM you have installed on your computer.

To set the paging file go to the Control Panel and click through System -> Advanced -> Performance Settings -> Advanced -> Virtual Memory Change.

4. Disable startup items

Startup items are programs that load into memory every time Windows boots up and cause other open applications to spill over virtual memory and adds to the CPU load, shortening battery runtime. Here is how to remove some of them that are not necessary.

5. Condition the battery

Battery memory is where the battery becomes conditioned to run for less time than it is designed to run. Say for example, you run your computer on battery for an hour and then you plug it back in to let it recharge. The battery will become conditioned to run only an hour before it runs out of juice.
